Imagine yourself in the Land of the Pharoahs. On this trip trip with Flatirons Scuba we’ll start out the trip by visiting the Giza Plateau, known for the 3 pyramids, one in particular, Cheops, which took 100,000 people 20 yrs to construct! We’ll also visit the famous Sphinx, and Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, including the Mummy Room, where you’ll see vast findings of King Tut’s tomb. There will also be a trip to visit the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar where you can shop for wonderful handicrafts, silver & gold jewelry, copperware & cotton. Then after shopping & scenic tours we’ll fly to Aswan and board the deluxe Nile Cruise, (w/ a possible 3hr extension to Abu-Simbel to visit the Temples of Ramses II & his wife Nefertari). We’ll journey by felucca to Kitcheners Island with its beautiful gardens and the mausoleum of Agha Khan, and visit Aswan’s High Dam, Granite quarries & Unfinished Obelisk. We will also be visiting the city of Kom Ombo, Edfu, (sandstone temple of Horus) & onto Luxor, ancient Thebes, the Avenue of the Sphinxes & another possible extension to Karnak Temple for a spectacular sound & light show. After sightseeing for a week on the mainland, we’ll fly to Hurghada and board the beautiful MV Tala Liveaboard, a 37 meter steel hulled vessel with 10 luxury cabins. Her big spacious sundecks and comfortable service will make you feel right at home, with diving geared towards technical and recreational diving. Onboard the MV Tala you have an assortment of technical diving equipment such as doubles, stages, and even scooters at your disposal. The Red Sea is a rich and diverse ecosystem. More than 1100 species of fish have been recorded in the Red Sea, and around 10% of these are found nowhere else. This also includes around 75 species of deepwater fish. The rich diversity is in part due to the 1,240 miles of coral reef extending along its coastline; these fringing reefs are 5000-7000 years old and are largely formed of stony acropora and porites corals. The reefs form platforms and sometimes lagoons along the coast and occasional other features such as cylinders (such as the Blue Hole (Red Sea) at Dahab). These coastal reefs are also visited by pelagic species of red sea fish, including some of the 44 species of shark. After a week of diving in the Red Sea, you can either fly home or choose to continue onto Jordan and Petra. This extension will be 4 nights visiting the “Lost City of Petra” in Jordan, Amman, Madaba, & Mt. Nebo.
