Congratulations on deciding to become a PADI Scuba Instructor or Assistant Instructor. Successful completion of this program sets your path to an exciting career in scuba with job opportunities around the world.
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) followed by the successful completion of a PADI Instructor Examination (IE) is your first step to being awarded the prestigious rating of Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). Candidates for this professional rating receive training in PADI standards, procedures, philosophies and PADI methods. They are evaluated in the areas of practical PADI ability, watermanship, diving knowledge, attitude and professionalism. As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you have gained the basic knowledge of the PADI philosophy. As an OWSI candidate, you will complete your training in the PADI Instructional System, and be eligible to take the PADI Instructor Examination. Upon completion of the PADI instructor exam, you'll find many opportunities for part-time employment in the local scuba community, and you'll stay connected to diving!
The IDC is composed of 10 staff presentations and 5 candidate presentations (2 classroom, 2 confined water, and 1 open water).
Your individual skills will be evaluated on watermanship, rescue and diving skills.
You will attend several classroom sessions to increase your knowledge in all areas of scuba, and effectively coordinate class, pool and open water sessions.
Once you have completed the IDC you will be ready to attend the IE.
